In light off the posts over at newcougar.org I am a little confused about upgrading to the lower intake manifold that BAT will soon be offering complete w/19lb injectors. Right now I already plan on upgrading to the dual honed svt upper IM but I don't know if the lower will be worthwhile. A list of my mods are below as I am unsure if I need larger injectors to handle the extra power. Also there are lots of rumors going around as to when ford switched over to a returnless fuel system, sometime around 5/99? Any answers are appreciated thanks!

Unless your vehicle is returnless (post 5/99), the SVT lower will not be immediately useful for you.

If your car is not returnless, the 10lb fuel injectors will have to be swapped over to your existing fuel rail, assuming they fit.

I've talked to Eric at BAT several times over that last month, the lowers he is getting are indeed returnless type.

Lance,if my car was built after 5/99 then supposedly I already have the larger lower intake manifold which is returnless correct? Is there reason for me to get 19lb injectors, or not without a custom chip to advance the timing

If your mods dictate a jump in injector size, buying the manifold makes good money sense because it's cheaper than buying the injectors separate. If not, it's a waste of money to add fuel your car doesn't need by adding the injectors. The question about build date vs. lower manifold sizing vs. returnless fuel system is one that has yet to be confirmed, but it seems to hold true, at least on the Cougars. If you tear into it, let us know what yours is!

19lb injectors will be needed for 200HP and higher.

At your current level you do not need them.

If you do go to the 3L you will need them.

Don't forget that if you use 19# injectors that you will need to recalibrate the MAF (or posibly use the SVT MAF).

If you don't, your af mixture will be off and you will be constantly setting the CEL.

Bill Jenkins, one of the first to use an SVT lower intake on a non SVT, needed to reinstall the 16# injectors to avoid these problems.

If you think that the EEC system will automatically adjust to the larger injectors, you are in for a shock.

From what I gather about not needing 19lb injectors even with the I/H/E set-up on a non-Svt duratec would it be possible for me to buy the lower Svt intake from Bat and use my current injectors with it? What size injectors do non-svt duratecs come with anyway 16# or 17#'s?

The non SVT comes with 16# injectors.

My guess is that the lower manifold would work if you swap over the injectors and fuel rail, but we won't know for sure until some tries it. It is hard to imagine that it would not fit or at least could not be made to fit with very little modification.

We need to get a FAQ on injectors for these cars. I hear different things everyday....it really is confusing.
