Yup, drove my 98 csvt to the store about 5min away from my house, went in, came out and CRANK NO START! So it was towed off to the dealer for the 2nd time in the three weeks Ive had the car. Thank God for the warranty. Turn the key and you can hear the fuel pump, cranks like normal -- no broken timing chain, so im thinking that its spark related. Probably get my headers in the mail today too just to rub it in.

Thinking of selling it............

What was determined to be the problem the first time?

Check the crank position sensor and the camshaft position sensor, both located on the passenger's side of the engine block. Look for cables coming out of the bundle that the front O2 sensor comes out of, or get a bright light and just look at the side of the engine. That's what mine was.

..also check the battery terminals for corrosion, starter (and solenoid) connections and clean the IAC valve.

Well I just got off the phone with the dealer and... They unloaded the car off the truck and it started right up, shut it off and it started right up again. There scanning the computer to look for codes.
- update -
found code for PATs.

um ???? It was/is my understanding that PATs wont let the motor crank.

I dunno, I guess Ill just move "Datalogging Capability" up on my Mods list and see if there is something going on with the sensors.
Thanks for the suggestions of the Crank/Cam/02 sensors, didnt event think that there would be anything past
Fuel - Spark - Timing

I have the exact same problem in my 98 SE ATX. The Ford dealership in Guelph told me the motor was done. I checked the oil it was down a half litre added oil and it started right up.

So, they did not fix the problem the first time?

I guess they did not fix it the first time.
I checked all sensors and they are connected and clean. Brand new battery, Full oil level plus 1 quart.

This is on my receipt from the dealer--

Tech found code B1602 again. The issue is with the key or the tranciever. He cleared out the code and it did not reset. IF this code comes on again or the car fails to start the car will have to goto Ford for further diagnosis.

My questions are..

1. Is this even the right code? couldnt find it in a quick search. (have yet to check FSM)
2. It is still my understanding that PATs will not allow the engine to crank, and that the security light will blink, to show a problem. (the light was not lit)
