Hello again,
I have been having a problem with hesitation / bucking at a constant speed when more gas is applied as well as taking off from a stop. Now I am hearing a sort of farting noise from the exaust. The exaust noise just started happening recently but the hesitation has been around for a while.
I have replaced plugs and wires, replaced fuel filter, cleaned the MAF, replaced EGR valve and DPFE, replaced IAC valve and am out of ideas.
I am hoping that this new exaust thing can shine some light on the problem. I am NOT getting a CEL
Thanks for any help!!

Plugged precat or main cat?

I am having the same issues. My car hesitates when you accelerate without downshifting. Ex: you cruise along in thrid gear and instead of downshifting and accelerating you push down the gas and accelerate slower. It histates in situations like that, and sometimes when I am slowing down the exhaust goes pop pop pop. What the hell is my problem????
Everything I could think of is ok:
plugs and wires are a year old
plugs are in the right order
new fuel filter
This hesitation started after I put on MSDS headers. I think the cat suggestion might be right. After the header instal the car was started up and it shot out a good amount of black soot.

What plugs and wires? Might want to check the gap again. It does sound like it is backfiring.

magnecor wires and the autozone plugs that everybody recommends (I cant remember). Would the gap be an issue if the problem just started occuring recently?

Maybe. Chongo had his spark plug gaps out of wack in 4 months.

I assume you have the Duratec 2.5L V6 farting...
I have the same problem... My spark plug gaps are a little off I think because I bought some Autolite and replaced my old ones with our measuring the gap...
However, I've seen this problem get worst over time, is the spark plug gap getting bigger? Why would the problem increase if I haven't changed the gap?

Well, the gap is supposed to be 0.054. And per Chongo's post, the gap did get bigger. Why? I don't know. Maybe someone else can chime in.

That's right. It's a '98 2.5 V6 DOHC
When I did the plugs and wires a year ago I purchased Autolite plugs and Motocraft wires. I will check the gap again but the farting thing is what concerns me now.

Spark plug gap is fine on all plugs. I rented a scan tool from Murray's Auto that gives real-time values for certin sensors in the car everything looked ok. The only things that I noticed were the following...
Absolute TPS Position at idle 16.4 (what is this supposed to be?) Engine Load at Idle ~ 23-26 (no AC on) (seems high)
Can anyone shine some light on these readings?
Also, is there a way to test to see if the cat(s) are bad and which ones (precat vs. main cat)
Thanks !!
