Alright, I need some help and advice on getting some products for my 2000 csvt. Its time for a tune up, first one I might add. I need some help on what kind of spark plugs, spark plug wires and fuel filter I should get. The car has 85,000 on her and was also wondering if I should change these items or not. Last, I was told that taking off the UIM and cleaning it is a good thing to do. I'm a novice at mechanic work, how hard would it be to do this. Thanks guys.

Good time to do a search, there are tons of posts and how-to write ups. Many of them have easy to follow instructions and pics. I'll give you the plug; Autolite APP-764 gap is .052-.056, and stay away from Fram oil filters. Good Hunting.

Been using Fram filters all my life not one problem yet. I dont know why everyone knocks them. They've been in the busines since 1934 so I guess they are doing something right. Oh and as far as a tune-up goes you want to do the usual stuff(plugs, wires, fuel filter etc.) as well as remove the UIM and clean that as well as the LIM and TB. Some people leave the UIM on and work around it, but I have gotten into the habit of removing it and cleaning it along with the regular tune-up. -tropictour

See the recent post in Duratec maintenance, many posts about Fram's lack of quality over the years. As far as Fram doing something right, they have done well marketing garbage.

What go you know about Autolite's Extreme Performance and Racing plugs? Good or lame choices for the CSVT? I haven't even checked to see if they even have an application for my car yet.

Just because your engine doesn't blow up doesn't mean Fram is a good filter. They flow less oil, and they don't filter as well at Motorcraft, Mobil 1, Purolator, or K&N. Run a Fram for 5,000 miles, get an oil analysis, then run one of the other filters for 5k and get an analysis. Then tell me Fram is okay. I know someone who NEVER changed the oil in their old Ford pickup. It lasted well over 100k miles, but that doesn't mean it's a smart thing to do.

I think if the oil and filter is changed every 3k/3mths, it should be fine. The concern is some have an extended schedule of 5k/6mths (or more). I used to have whatever iffy ube put in my Contour (and I am sure that filter quality is worse than Fram). Of course, now that I am doing it myself (and saving maybe $20 in the process), I "splurged" on the good stuff. . But I still use regular dino oil (3k/3mths).

The concern is not extended service oil changes, the concern is poor quality and filtering.

"splurging" is what I do when I put a K&N and almost 7qts of Mobil 1 0W-40 in. $50 for an oil change, DIY! But I run it very hard with a lot of race time, so it's worth it. Idiocy is picking up a Fram when the Motorcraft sitting next to it on the shelf at Wal-Mart for the same price is a much better filter. Why take chances?
