just an intake and muffler would not increase output enough to require replacing the torque converter.
A shift kit would likely help, provided the transmission is in good condition. But, a shift kit will eliminate the nice smooth shift patterns set at the factory. However, the higher line pressure, greater torque converter lock up pressure and higher flow rates would benifit the transmission in helping the clutches to last longer, reduce operating temps, shorten shift time, and provide firmer off the line performance.
