Can someone walk me though the steps on how to troubleshoot my problem?

Thanks!

Check the balance control, check that the speaker is good (gotta take it out), check wires at speaker, check wires at amp (if you have premium), and check the wires at the headunit

Factory or aftermarket?

If factory, standard or premium sound?

Are both left side speakers totally dead, or just the front/rear?

Does any sort of sound come out, or totally silent even if you set the fader/balance to just one speaker and crank it?

both left speakers are totally dead. I had changed the balance and fader to both leftside front and back and cranked up the volume.

It's an aftermarket Sony CD player and is brand new.

Take it back to whoever installed it and have them make it work properly. If you did it yourself or this isn't an option, pull out the deck and check for loose wiring. Also let us know if it was wired directly into the factory wiring, or if an adapter was used. And finally, did the car some with premium sound? I think there will be badges on the doors if so, whereas the base system just has "STEREO" molded in.

Like rearden said, take out the HU and check for any loose wires that your spliced/ soldered. If you cant find anything there, check the harness plug itself, see if any od the prongs were pushed out when it was connected. That was my problem when this happened to me.

Also, do you have aftermarket speakers... ?
