Has anyone installed an external filter on their CD4E? If so, do you know the part number and where you bought it?
THANKS!

I have one on my Escape. It is a clone of the B&M. There isn't much room for it on a Contour. A neighbor installed the same one I did on his 96 SE. He mounted it where the battery used to be. He moved the battery to the trunk.

There are also in line trans filters that resemble a large in line fuel filter. They would be easier to find a place for.

The B&M style uses a conventional oil filter (Motorcraft FL1A or if you want a shorter one, FL300). Intitial cost about $40.00 to $50.00. Cost of the in line style about $25.00 to $30.00.

Although a bit more expensive initially, the cost to replace a filter for a B&M style is usually less than $5.00, where the replacement of the inline style is more costly each time it needs to be replaced. They are also harder to find.
