I've had my CEL on for a little while, and finally managed to pull the codes (courtesy of the local mechanic). I'm getting codes for the O2 sensors (which I just replaced) and for the 'intake manifold control valve'. I didn't do the translations of the codes myself, but there are what the mechanic got :

PO 155
P1519

I'm looking in my Haynes book and I see no mention of an 'intake manifold control valve' and the first code isn't in my list either.

Also, I can't find the list of codes that I've seen on here before either, so I can double check.

Here's the details :

98 Contour SE, Duratec 2.5L V6, standard transmission

Help me ! I've got a girl I need to pick up this weekend =P

P0155 Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor circuit fault - Bank No. 2.

This would indicate a wiring problem with the front sensor. Check connector for corrosion and wires for shorts.

P1519 Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open.

This problem is in the IMRC box under the front shield or you have a frayed cable to the linkage.

Wow thank you, you've helped actually a great deal.

So I need to replace the IMRC, after I check for frayed connections first of course.

If I need to replace the IMRC, do I need to remove the intake manifold ? I was hoping to have the part for tommorow and do the work on saturday, but it's looking less and less likey. Ford isn't really making it much easier if you ask me.

Take off the cover and look.

The IMRC is the box.

The cable runs around to a bracket on the front.

A metal rod linkage connects the two sides of the upper intake so both shafts rotate together.

No big deal to remove!

See Rays thread for info on the UIM. Rays UIM rebuild

Well, Ford is no longer in my good books =P..for a variety of reasons. The guy at the parts counter was atleast candid about it...

"go over there to pay, and smile when she takes all your money"

But I found the right part, and after being convinced that they had given me the wrong part (was actually looking at the cruise control), I took off the cover and found it.

Really wish I had checked this thread earlier, would have saved me half an hour of unjustified indignation.
