Some of you may recall me posting about BTR exhaust, rev. 4.

Welp, it's been over a month, and the system is still holding up quite well. I've only had it scrape once - and that was on a driveway with a very sharp peak. I've gone over all sorts of speed bumps with no contact at all.

And in case you missed the first post, here it is:

BTR Rev. 4

So those of you not interested in lowering your cars might want to think about having a shop fab something like this up for you. Losing all those bends makes a nice difference. And the duratec sound from a pair of mini super turbo's is quite different, imho.

Still like it without the crossover pipe? I know a bad position on a crossover makes it worse than no balance tube, so I may just go with the sraight duals too...

Yeah!! Someone else that likes their duals!! laugh The only problem I've had is in Terry's driveway (when construction crew screwed it up by driving a cement trunk over it, but has gotten repaved by them since then) when I bottomed out one of my cats. Ewww... It still works, so no quarrels there...

bnoon: what happened to that weekend project with your Tru-Duals?? Did you just not get around to it??

how have people like xchang done their balance tubes? do you know if they start with none at all, do the crayon thing, and then hack up the duals and put in the balance tube? Is there an easier way to do it if you have a single pipe. I.E. in 5 years when my pipe bites the big one, how would I do the cross over pipe?

There is no way to properly run balance tubes on a transversely mounted engine because the rear pipe will always run hotter than the front. Also, I can't believe that it has to be in the hottest location b/c stock cars run their x-pipes farther downstream. On our cars, since space is limited and the engine is sideways, I have been advised to just find a convinient spot that packages well and leave it at that. That comes from someone who works on prototype racing and drag vehicles. Believe it or not, your choice. smile

One more thing
xchang >> once I get my car finished up, I'd like to meet up with you to see what you've done, how you like it, etc.

My duals project went out the window when Summit screwed up my order and didn't get me the right mufflers. Since I absolutely had to have exhaust put on my car, I fixed my stock exhaust once again. Now I have the pipes and mufflers in my garage and no absolute need for them to get onto the car. I'm trying to finish my kitchen remodeling before I spend any more time on Silvie unless it's a "have to" type of thing. Anyone want to steal it in the middle of the night for me? wink

Actually, there is a way to do it right. It won't be a good as running it on an inline engine, but you still have to match pulses or it's worse than no balance tube at all. Putting it in a place where it fits might work, might hurt. You have to check it out first with the "Crayola or Krylon" method, or know how to measure exhaust gas pulse lengths with 3 cylinders flowing in the correct firing order at the proper CFM rating and at what RPM, size of collectors, shape of collectors, length of primaries... eek Go to Burns Stainless and try to fill out a collector size report, let alone a balance tube system...
