Just heard a radio Ad today on Q107

Mister transmission will read CEL's for free and tell you what the problems are.

I wonder what the catch is though, seeing how it's Mister Transmission.....

I was just about to post the same thing. Mr transmission only does transmissions? If the code is anything but a tranny problem what can they do? We need someone with a CEL to do a test.

It's really common here in the US for places to do it for free. It builds the customer base through satisfaction. yet some idoits still go to the dealer and pay $50 to have it done.

Maybe they are just branching out? Who knows.

It's great if the CEL is related to the transmission (usually if your car is OBD-II). But, what can Mr. Transmission do about a lean bank of cylinders, a DPFE or EVAP system?

What's really odd is how this isn't advertised on their website. You'd think such a huge promotional campaign would filter online They only make mention of using a scanner for transmission diagnosis.

Right now, I'm more comfortable using my OBD-II scanner as a starting point.

Well I just threw a CEL. Off to Mister Transmission tonight. Already called ahead. They said they do the free check. Let you all know if there is a catch.

There was no catch to getting my CEL read. Making another post though as I still have problems.

I went there today to have my CEL scanned. Turns out my EGR is intermittently tripping the CEL. The guy told me the car will not pass an e-test right now if it was to be tested. So I gotta look into repairing my EGR now.

Being a mechanic myself, I wouldn't trust anything Mr T has to say. If you are having problems take it to a reputable shop to have it properly diagnosed. Anyone doing free diagnostics Beware!
