I'm a new owner of a 1999 Mercury Mystique LS Sport and I have a couple questions. 1. When I bought the car I was told it had the passive anti-theft system but in the owners manual it says that was only available with the V-6 engine and I have the 2L Zetec. Do I have it? 2. I was wondering what options did the Sport package add? 3. How do you remove the front licence plate holder. It appears it is held on by plastic pop rivets or am I wrong? If it's plastic pop rivits I should be able to drill the head off right?
Thanks Nathan

Is this a Canadian model? All U.S. spec Mystique LS's in 1999 came standard with V-6 engines. There was no Sport option available here.
Do you have the flashing LED in the middle of the dash? If you don't, you don't have passive anti-theft.

'99 Mystique LS, totally original (including the original water pump and the premium stereo)! Bought new in December 1998 for $21,000.

I added my own anti-theft light!!! yep just a flashing light. Cause the way I look at it is simple, if they want it that bad they will take it! No matter what alarm or anti-theft device you have.

I'll try and help you out here with what I know.
I had a CANADIAN 1998 Mystique GS SPORT with a Zetec and ATX.
I had no anti theft system,no trunk spoiler,and I had grey cloth seats,60/40 folding rear seats,fog lights,tachometer,power windows,locks and mirrors,cruise,AM,basic am/fm/cassette,ABS,15" 6 spoke alloys,rear drum brakes and I think that was it.
I don't know what goodies the sport had. I think it actually had less good stuff.
As for the licence plate,3 plastic rivets hold it on,obviously leaving large ugly holes when you remove it. Don't take it off unless you're going to properly fill the holes and make it look like they were never there.
