It started two days ago, the car is a 99 SVT contour, it only has 46K on it. First i thought my exaust rattled a heatshield loose, but last night i noticed it getting louder, so i popped the hood, and it almost sounds like a lifter knock. How do i go about geeting this problem resolved. I dont want to drive it until i figure whats wrong. Any help is greatly apprciated...

I really hope your not going through the same thing I did!!! I had a knock sound in my 98 CSVT, took it to my mechanic and he told me it WAS the heat shield and to come back next week and he'd tighten it. 5 days later, driving home from work the knocking got CONSIDERABLY louder and next thing I knew I was broken down on the side of the highway with a busted connector rod and a destroyed engine.
If I were you I would have somebody who knows what they're doing(unlike my mechanic)check it out ASAP.
I still cry myself to sleep at night thinking about my SVT "shell" sitting in my driveway.

I would NOT drive it anymore. Could be a spun bearing. The reason I say you shouldn't drive it is because you could totally blow your engine and need a replacement. i've heard several stories of seized engines. Save your engine while you still can. Get it checked out ASAP. That's what I've heard.
