odd, none of my shingles have melted off my roof yet, and i'm willing to bet that it gets just as hot, or hotter, up there than it does in your car doors.
Interesting...I wonder how hot it WOULD have to get to melt the shingles off your roof? Especially considering the fact that they are nailed down...
hey, if they melt, nails aren't going to help, are they?

fact is, 99.99999% of the time asphalt mat fails, it's installation error, as most people are either too lazy or too stupid to prep and install it right. perhaps your brother should have used nails in his install.

Not that it matters, but FWIW my brothers install was done by a professional shop. He did contact eD about it and they replaced the product with v3. There were three layers of v1 when it originally failed. Even though v1 is supposed to be okay on top of v1, eD said the extra weight pulling down on a vertical surface, combined with the heat, are what caused the failure.
Besides, did you guys even read the link I posted?

BrownBead failed in a controlled test environment (properly cleaned surface and installed product) at 160*F after only two minutes. That was one layer.
Evidence enough for me that there are far superior products on the market for as much or less money. Hence the reason for my original post (it wasn't to come on here and talk crap, contrary to SteedaSVT's apparent belief).

SteedaSVT happens to be a professional Installer and he has like 4 layers of V1 and V1SE on his doors.

Congrats. I'll be sure to send you some cookies next time my wife whips up a batch.
I'm glad that you defend eD...I like them too. In fact, I have 80 ft^2 of v1SE^2, 2 gal of v3, and 50 ft^2 of TekLite that's going in my car this weekend. Just no asphalt.

What was that about condescending?
BTW, it appears that dampening and damping now have the same definitions, but as long as I can remember, the term for suppressing resonances was damping and people were mocked for dampening (making thing wet) things. Now both mean to suppress and to make wet.
