SVT 2 1.8T is probably making the same or more crank hp, with maybe 10-15% less driveline loss, ~700 less lbs, and a stick....hmmm.

ok... just FYI, the vw B5 platform A4/passat is a TOTALLY different car from the VW A4 (golf, jetta) body. the B5 platform cars ESPECIALLY the A4 weighs about 400 lbs more than the jetta and i'm only estimating. oh, and even though the automagic can "shift faster" it's way slower and heavier, even with the chip...
and as another poster said the newer 1.8t cars in vw lineup are up to 180 HP (reported as 170 so as not to piss off audi)
the TT comes in 180 and a huge ass turbo on the 225 HP model (the one with psuedo-dual exhaust).
The 2002 VR6 does indeed have 201 HP but is quite a bit heavier than the 1.8t. i'd go with the 1.8t anyday.
I come from VW land and represent VW hardcore

. MY 86 GTi would blow the pants off of my so far stock 98 SVT. (i just raced the guy i sold it to, and he can't drive worth a$$, although i'm still getting used to the mushy ass clutch in the CSVT)
just to add some fuel to y'alls fire, i am going back to VW land as soon as i get some money together for my 1.8t A2 GTi conversion.
I drove my friends, who had the stage3 kit and it was totally ridiculous. 280+ FWHP!
mine is gonna be AWD. oh, and that is the other thing. VW doesn't make 4WD. it's AWD, REAL AWD.
BTW, VW of north america sells really crappy cars compaired to what the europeans get. (just like ford, and bmw) just take a look at the
RS4 (argghhhhlll)
VW smokes you hosers! (and me)
that all said, i love my CSVT, it's smooth and roomy, and nice on the inside. (coming from an 86 GTi) :-)
i'll have it until i can afford an RS4 US conversion.
meanwhile i'll be racing my 1.8t conversion in FSM and whooping A$$!

have a nice day now!
