Not as good as it sounds unfortunately. It's a 1984 944S 5spd, with a blown head gasket. I'm hoping to get it cheap.

If someone can please do a CARFAX for me. I want to make sure this thing isn't a complete basket case.

Carfax isn't going to help you there - take it to a qualified Porsche mechanic for a good once-over. There are several web sites listing the traditional 944 issues. GRM did one a while ago, you might want to look at their site for the articles.

Have fun!

He can find out if it's been in a major accident! He didn't ask for opionions. Try posting this on VW Vortex or a big Porsche forum. I've always received help on bigger sites.

An '84 S-model? AFAIK, there's no such thing. The 924S was introduced in 1986, and the 944S in 1987.

There are some really good 944s out there, but a good friend and Porschephile advised me to stay away from all the S models as they had several head issues which, IMO, would have been even worse in the early years.

I don't know what your price range is, but my advice is to steer clear of this one. If it's a bargain on purchase day, it probably won't be a bargain on maintenance day.

It is very common to drop a Chevy V8 in there. If you have a blown head gasket, this is going to be your best bet. Can be very cheaply acquired, more power, fairly simple drop in, and much easier on the wallet to maintain. Good luck. It's a great car.

While in my experience a cheap Porsche is NEVER inexpensive, the rewards are quite nice. And places like Pelican Parts make it easier.

And just think how this sounds: "Honey, I think that I'll take the Porsche today...."

That said, from your description, I would wait and find a better example. The 1986 has a VASTLY improved interior, and likely won't need as much work.

And watch the insurance: I looked at a 928 a while ago, and when I checked the insurance it was $2000 Cdn. A little much for a toy.
