Haha. It is amazing how offended people get when comparing another car to their car, whether it be speed, weight, etc. I'd like to get some accurate info here so we can end the arguments

no arguement. this being the contour enthusiast group=we win. so whether real or imagined the contour is better in every possible way.

That is correct sir. Seriously though, I seem to recall all the old car rags talking unfavorably about the Cougar, yet their reviews for the 'Tour seemed much more pleasant.

Sorry, there might be a stripped cougar that was under 3000 but I doubt it. I actually shopped the 99 cougar and the 3300 pound curb weight pushed me away from it. I drove it and it just was slow compared to the 99 SVT.

GrandMasterKhan has had his put on the scale. It is under 3000lbs as those sites state. Whoever told you the cougar was coming in at 3300lbs was quite wrong. Maybe those slush boxes add 400lbs. That might be why all of them are seconds slower. You know the SVT had 30 more hp so I'd hope it would be faster than the Cougar when they come in at the same weight.

Minor Aesthetic/luxury components in the Mercury may affect the weight slightly.
