Given that both the contour and the cougar come with the same power output and have similar weight it will honestly come down to the driver.

The 99 cougar is indeed under 3000lbs...however the 02 XR & ZN cougars are 3080lbs due to the improved interior quality and heavier leather/power seats etc and OEM 17" wheels.

However the cougar does have a 20% stiffer chasis. So a cougar would have an edge in an autoX event. However once again the driver is the most important factor here.

Also keep in mind that the cougar has a few SVT suspension parts including the SVT contour Brakes & rear Sway bar.

Nope. Cougar was stock like 3300 pounds or maybe more. The base GL V6 contour was 2960, the SE contour was around 3100 and the SVT supposedly 3050 but more like 3100 also.

Sorry, there might be a stripped cougar that was under 3000 but I doubt it. I actually shopped the 99 cougar and the 3300 pound curb weight pushed me away from it. I drove it and it just was slow compared to the 99 SVT.

here's what autotrader.com says. Here

GMK has done tons of weight related research involving the cougar, so I'd listen to what he says. I know I'm a newb here, but I've been around fastcougar for quite a while.

Around Here, only women drive cougars. And only men drive Marauders. Sad isn't it?
