So I was driving what was once my contour, now my little bros because I went of to college and bought another car, and found something a little surprising. The oil pressure light flickers at me when I get above the 5k rpm mark. I didn't think to check the oil , but I could have sworn he had gotten and oil change only two weeks before I came home. Anybody know what this could be? Also completely unrelated...I hope...the AC went out about a month ago. I was driving it in the rain the very same night and couldn't see sh..so i decided i'd clear up the windows a bit only to find that the AC doesn't work at all...poor contour is falling apart...stupid little brother.

If it is a Duratec, half quart above max line. If fan is blowing but no cool air check if you need refrigerant R134a.

is the air just warm or is no air comming outta the vents at all, it depends , the blower might be bad, the blend door might be stuck, might be low on refrigerant, possible cloged txv or orfice tube it could be multiple things dont just put in refrigerant, espically when you dont know how much to add. that should be done by a professional , LIKE ME.

So, basically I'm a moron and didn't remember what I saw blinking at me in the car. The fact that I just remembered to say something about it to my brother after three weeks of not being home probably contributed to my incorrect recollection of the details. So the real problem is that the BATTERY light was flickering at me in the 5k rpm range, not the oil light. I now remember why i didn't get out and immediately check the oil. The battery isn't that old, so i'm not sure if the alternator just isn't performing as well as it should or what. The alternator, by the way, whines like a super charger. Sounds like crap imo, but my bro likes it for some retarded reason...it muffles that beautiful exhaust we have on there. Anyway. Any suggestions as to what this problem could be would be greatly appreciated.

How old is the alternator? Could be wiring or floating brushes.
Edit.
To test the battery, turn on your headlights for 60 seconds, then the voltage should read slightly more than 12.
To test for alternator, start car, then voltage should be 14 to 14.5.

Well see, I actually have no idea how old the alternator is, my guess is, that it is the original. The engine was replaced about 20k miles ago with an engine with half the miles on it...75k miles...and whatever could be used from the old one was reused on the new one. And yes, the wiring is bad... there are some places especially under the battery where the rubber insulation around the wires has cracked and they are exposed...for this reason if I hit any kind of puddle in the tour the thing damn near shuts off....there are so many possible reasons for this flickering it isn't funny. I just suggested the alternator because it whined so much.

There is a TSB which advises a new style tensioner, and a new additional splash shield.
Edit. TSB

The "battery" light should really be called a "charging system" light. It really is more of an indication of an alternator problem.
