Chris Hightower's car is being prototyped for an all Contour kit towards the end of this month last I heard. Check out the many, many replies he's posted and recieved. Use the search feature to gain more information.

i am getting a custom favricated kit with no plans to produce it for other tours (except maybe a freinds) it is going to be a full custom job though, probably going to cost more than chris's system, but hopefully put out more power

rara, i was wondering if you have any experience with SHM,s rod and piston kit, is it (rods) stronger than the stock? hnow much power can they handle, if they have the appropriate power handling that would save money (instead of getting new forged rods and pistons)

what questions did you want answered, that topic got kind of infused with flames and the points seem to have gotten blurred.. what did you want to know?

Kris,

I am not aware of a rod and piston kit from SHM that will fit the Duratech.

as far as their 4.6L kits, I don't have personal experience, but many people that I have talked to them are happy w/ the parts, but they are quite expensive (as are momst 4.6L internal parts)

yeah, i understand about the last thread getting all mixed up. I actually don't even remember a whole lot about the specifics of your planned setup. I just remember getting the feeling that your plan really wasn't sorted out, and you were using a bunch of mismatched parts. I don't mean to sound like a jerk w/ that either, just that's the feeling I got. I'll go back and look up the thread and see if i can remember some of the specifics, but in the meantime, how far along are you on this? Have you started buying parts? developing packaging for the turbo, etc.? Do you have a real plan for ensuring proper fuel delivery, besides just dumping a bunch of extra fuel through higher fuel pressure?
I will tell you, proper fuel can really make or break a forced induction setup. If you don't provide the proper amount of fuel, detonation will surely make for a pile of very expensive garbage.

Also, why in the world are you wanting to run a nitrous pre-spool???? If you think need to do that to decrease spool-up time, your turbo is horribly mis-sized, and will be a tuning nightmare to even get to run right on occasion.

People just don't understand turbo's, and with all the BS info floating around on the net, it aint going to get any better.
I feel sorry for Kris, is he is misguided and obviously has "more dollars than sense".
If you REALLY want a turbo so bad and want to make insane power, then the SVT is a waste of time.
Don't get me wrong, I love my SVT and would like it turbocharged too, but going into my garage and welding a series of pipes and hairdryers together without really thinking about it, throwing my money around is going to get me nowhere fast, and leave me broke with a car that will be at best, a POS to drive.
I would suggest you sell the SVT and buy something like a Supra or first generation DSM, then you can go after the 400hp it seems you are looking for without needing to to totally rebuild you car and hope that it doesn't grenade itself the first time to nail it.
I may sound like an a**hole, but I really don't care. I have written a thesis on trubocharging and have owned numerous vehicles, of different types and designs, including a very modified 300hp Eclipse GSX, so I know what's involved. You are just going abot it all wrong in that you are trying to acheive the goals you have set in the short period of time you have allocated yourself, and as such I feel sorry for you because at the end of the day you will be screwed.

Yea, what Aussie said, or you can call Terry. Have it done the right f'n way. Everyone is looking for a bolt on, and with "cheap" pistons, and "crap" rods: the power added will not justify the cash flow out of pocket. Build it right or do not build it (note that mins is still stock, and it is not for lack of cash)....

Since the aftermarket is limited in the forced induction arena, people with cash need to step up to the plate. People with the brains also need to step up to the plate. If the cost per HP doesn't fit your needs for bolts-ons and you don't feel like upgrading your car from stock, fine, but don't put others down for speculation on the web of what they wish to accomplish with their cars. I and several others have tried things that have both succeeded and failed, in secret, due in part because of the naysaying that goes on here and any BB.

That being said, SVTKris, read some turbocharging books if you haven't. Being an informed customer will make it cheaper and easier for you to turbo your car. Get all of the info you can about local shops willing and able to help you do the work. God help you if you get it done and don't dyno the thing before reporting back to the boards... wink
