The standard Duratec V6s do not use variable valve timing of any sort. The Jaguar's AJ-V6 uses continuously variable cam phasing for its variable valve timing. This system allows the intake valves to be opened earlier or later depending on engine speed. It however, does not allow the duration or amount of valve lift to be varied.

The Jag engine has a different head, I believe as well.
