I bought a 95 Contour and didn't get the key fob. Can I buy ANY key fob for a car with a trunk from ebay and reprogram it? Like a Taurus or does it HAVE to be a Contour? How would I reprogram one once I get it?

Wow! this is the night for key fob questions! Ironically, I just received today the one I got from someone on eBay. What matters is the FCC code on the back of the fob(GQ43VT4T). If you have one and are looking for another, you must get one with the same FCC code. If you don't have one, you'll need to find the code, maybe on the receiver which I think is behind the glove box under the dash. Do a search using the words "key fob" in the maintenance forum or the general forum, I forget which I searched in, for more information. It's easy to program once you find one. BTW, the one I got was new in factory sealed Ford packaging and only cost me $9.99 + $5.00 shipping. Good luck!

You need to know if the car is equipped before assuming that adding a fob will be possible.

just wondering if the only thing you need to install this so called key fob in the car, is the little box behind the glove box and the antenna, and of course have the key fob. just wondering what else is needed in the package. for it to work

The car has electric door locks. How would I know if it came equipped with a key fob? Is looking for the black box behind the glove box the only way? Would a car fax report or vehicle number help in any way? Anyone out there that can find out? Thanks. Dan

I think so. I have a 96 with power locks. It did not come with factory remote entry and I had to install an aftermarket remote entry (by Ford dealer). If yours came with factory remote entry (but I doubt it), then I suppose all you need is the fob.

Wow, now that's a bargain! I think I paid almost $20 for mine on eBay a few months badk and it was used. At the time it was one of the few on there though and is a LOT cheaper than getting a new one from Ford. I wouldn't mind picking another one up (a brand new one would be super nice)if they can be found that cheap though. Which seller did you get yours from???
To my knowledge though the only real way to tell if you have the keyless entry setup is to check for the programming plug behind the dash. It's actually quite easy to find using one of two methods (if you haven't found this info already):
1.) Open the glove box all the way and pull in on the two side pieces. These pieces have rounded ends which stick out to keep the door from falling all the way down. Pulling out on them will allow these parts to come out all the way. Once opened like this you should be able to see all the way back behind the dash including the black ecu box. There should be a white plug with a yellow insert attached to it if you have the keyless entry option. It may be hanging down behind there though so just dig around CAREFULLY and you should be able to find it if it's there.
2.) If you can't find it the first way then just take out the plastic plugs on the passengers side footwell (these are in front of the door on the right side of the footwell). You can then pull out on this trim piece which will give you access to the under dash area. You'll probably need a flashlight, but you should be able to look right up under where the ecu is and the plug would be right there.
Hope this helps some....

I looked on the back of the fob I have for my 97 Tbird. it has the same FCC ID (GQ43VT4T). I'll look for the program plug and see if it works.

I never received any PM...
I looked and the car doesn't have the module or wiring so it didn't come with remote entry.
The car DOES have a remote start key fob with a lock/unlock button. I found that module and it outputs a 0.5V signal when the key fob buttons are pushed.
I saw somewhere on this site where a guy had pictures of the wires in the rocker area that controlled the door locks.
I want to get some 0.5v relays so I can send 12v to the car wiring. Then the remote start (Avistart 3100) will lock and unlock the doors.
Anybody have a link to the post showing the door lock wires in the rocker area?
Anybody else know of a source for 0.5v trigger relay that can handle 12 volts? I may have to use a 0.5v relay to trigger a small 12v relay which will handle the needed 12v for the door locks.
Thoughts?
Ideas?
