I have been driving around with a K&N on my mystique for about a year and it's never quite run right. I went to the junk yard last week and found a pre 98 stock air box but it had no clips. I took it home and cleaned it up and bought some nuts and washers and bolts that I thought I could use to close it. Well those weren't going to work so after searching three junk yards I found a 98-00 air box and about 8 clips. My mystique is a 2000 and I like the way the pre 98 air box looked so I decided to stick with it. The car runs so much cleaner now. It picks up a lot better and it feels so much lighter when you hit the gas. She feels almost like a brand new car except for the suspension that firestone f-ed up. Anyways I can't believe how much better the stock intake works. I am going to try sleeperz's modification soon and see if that will further improve the preformance and gas mileage.

Man I guess 114k is a lot of miles for a '00 .

Stock generally offers the performance it started with, but never more.

I like my trimmed down CTA combined with blower whine. You can hear inside the car the sucking of the intake!

You know, I made a jury-rigged CAI for myself, and I am quite pleased. I took off the stock air box, put a Fram 3" intake paper filter on with a coupler, Packing taped over the first plenums hole, and remounted the Valve cover breather. It sounds sweet at around 3k rpm, where it develops a sort of howl. It sounds like the b@stard-child of a Porsche Flat-six and one of those new Scion 1.5L I4s. I am absolutely loving it, and it only cost me $18 and about 15 minutes.

No pics yet, but let me put it this way, it looks entirely stock except the Cylindrical filter at the end. Not much to see really. If I ever get a digi cam and someone to host the pics I'll show you guys...

Maybe even some sound clips too...
