Ok so I have a 98.5 contour svt which i had noticed for a long time had a significant loss of power above 3800rpm. There is no CEL or anything. I searched around the boards for a long time and thought it was the IMRC. I took off the cover, and checked as best as i could tell to see that the IMRC was opening the secondary. I finally gave up and took it to the dealer and told them to check the IMRC and anything else it could be.
THe dealership drove the car and tested it and told me 100% it was a clutch problem (seemed odd to be bc the car has 60k miles). I took the car out of the dealership and called around till i got the best price quote on a clutch and 3rd gear syncrho replacement (had them both done while the tranny was out).
Well now, $1600 later, the car still does not have power at the high rpms. ANy ideas? Should i try and just buy an IMRC and see if that does it?
Sorry for the long post but im real frustrated since i just spent so much money bc of the stupid stealership. I need help!

THAT was an expensive thing to do to find out it didn't work! Ouch!
How did you you determine that the IMRC IS opening the linkage? you looked AT it(passively). or actually looked at the linkage, the connectors, the bushings on the LIM end, etc?
I would certainly suspect that to be the culprit.

I would be most suspecious of a fuel problem. How old is the fuel filter. After changing the fuel filter, I would get a fuel pressure reading while driving to see if the fuel pressure drops off. I would also return to the dealer and talk directly with the service manager about the bad diagnosis and ask him to help with the unnecessary expense. Take all your receipts with you. It sounds like he has a technician that is short on training.

I changed the fuel filter within the last 2 months, no difference in performance. Also, the fuel pump has been replaced in the last 20k miles. I definitely think i will go to the dealership and talk to the shop manager, if for nothing else other than to let them know they have techs that know nothing.

IMRC's can be flakey. When they get older they seem to work when they feel. Did you check to see if the IMRC is connected to the secondaries. That linkage can break easily. $100 says it's the IMRC or it's linkage.

yea i may just try to buy the assembly and replace it. I should have known not to listen to the stealership after i had to explain to the tech what and where the IMRC was. I found the IMRC for 101 plus shipping. https://fordparts.com/cart/?pn=2S7Z-9J559-AA&submit=Search
