I have a 95 Contour V6 with 140,000 miles. Recently while driving the engine went dead. I was able to restart two times and drive short distances before going dead again. The third time the PCM fuse (F9 20 amp) blew. The PCM fuse controls the spark and fuel according to the diagrams. I replaced the fuse and the car did the same thing, starts twice, runs for about 30 seconds each time and then the PCM fuse blows. Any suggestions what could cause this. I do not see any shorts. Could the PCM relay cause a problem like this?? Help!

Well you could first pull the PCM and see if the fuse still goes. I think that might say the PCM is shorted in which case will need to be replaced. I don't see a sensor off the PCM allowing that much current to pull threw the PCM and take down 20amp fuse or a 30amp relay (thats alot of amps)

Yes you do have a short to ground, question is the PCM or wiring. If you pull the PCM and the fuse or relay still seems to go. Then you know it's the wiring.

cranked motor while pcm was out and fuse did not blow. i noticed a little spark in the starter relay when i stopped cranking the motor.

gonna put the pcm back in without the superchip and see what happens.

ok it cranked and ran this time, but i didnt drive it. afraid to. its cranked and ran before after replacing the fuse. afraid that ill be driving and its just gonna blow again. hate that feeling of not knowing definittively what the problem was and whether or not it really fixed. guess i need to just drive it and find out. good thing i have towing in my insurance. used it 3 times in 2 days last week. really want htis fixed.

thanx a lot to those who offered NON-sarcastic advice.

Drive to Autozone or Advance and scan for CEL codes. Then post.

dont have my chiltons with me now, but IIRC under fuses in the engine comp. box, #9 is identified as "pcm/powertrain control module" its a blue 20 amp fuse with see through top next to the big yellow starter relay and another blue 20 amp fuse with see through top for the ignition.
