HD1 CHECK POSSIBLE CAUSES TO MISFIRE

Misfire Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs):
P0301 - Cyl #1, Inj Test Pin 75
P0302 - Cyl #2, Inj Test Pin 101
P0303 - Cyl #3, Inj Test Pin 74
P0304 - Cyl #4, Inj Test Pin 100
P0305 - Cyl #5, Inj Test Pin 73
P0306 - Cyl #6, Inj Test Pin 99
P0307 - Cyl #7, Inj Test Pin 72
P0308 - Cyl #8, Inj Test Pin 98

P0300 - multiple cylinders misfiring, or cannot identify cylinder due to Camshaft Position sensor failure.

Possible causes:
-- Ignition System.
-- Fuel Injectors.
-- Fuel Pressure.
-- Evaporative System.
-- Canister Purge.
-- Base Engine.
-- Running out of fuel.

NOTE:
Running out of fuel may turn on the MIL and possibly store a Continuous Misfire DTC.

Running higher octane fuel than recommended can also cause misfires sometimes.

I'm down to checking wiring b/c I've replaced plugs, wires, coilpack, and entire LIM(for injectors), also ran a compression check today & its fine. From the looks of the plug i'm not getting any fuel, I've got fire, so I saw this and was wondering if anyone could expand on it. In the morning i'm probably going to pull the UIM and start checking every wire to my #4 injector!
Thanks
O'Brian

HD1 DTC P0301-P0310: CHECK FOR NO LOW FUEL

NOTE:
Running out of fuel can turn on the MIL and possibly store a Continuous Misfire DTC.

l Has the vehicle recently run out of fuel?

Yes
OBD II system OK. COMPLETE PCM Reset to clear DTCs.

No
GO to «HD2».

HD2
HD2 CHECK DAMPER AND PULLEY ASSEMBLY

NOTE:
This Pinpoint Test Step is for engines that have damper-mounted pulse rings. Remove the front cover if necessary to observe the crank pulley.

l Observe the crank pulley for wobble.

l Examine the EI pulse ring fastened to the harmonic fastener.

l Does the crank pulley wobble or is the pulse ring loose or damaged?

Yes
DISCONNECT battery for 5 minutes to allow PCM to learn new data, due to the old pulse ring. REPLACE the pulley or damper assembly. COMPLETE Misfire Monitor Repair Verification Drive Cycle.

No
GO to «HD3».

HD3
HD3 CHECK FOR ADAPTIVE FUEL MONITOR AND HO2S CONTINUOUS MEMORY DTCS

NOTE:
The following is a list of non-misfire DTCs to look for in the Continuous Memory.

P0136, P0156

P0171, P0172, P0175

P1130, P1150

l Are any of the DTCs listed above present?

Yes
GO to «HD5».

No
GO to «HD4».

HD4
HD4 CHECK FOR OTHER NON-MISFIRE CONTINUOUS MEMORY DTCS

NOTE:
Check for other non-misfire Continuous Memory DTCs which could cause the misfire DTC.

l Are other non-misfire Continuous Memory DTCs present?

Yes
ADDRESS the next Continuous Memory DTC. DISREGARD Misfire DTC at this time. GO to «Section 4» for Powertrain DTC Charts.

No
GO to «HD5».

HD5
HD5 CHECK FOR KEY ON ENGINE OFF (KOEO) DTCS

l Check for any key on, engine off DTCs which could cause the Misfire DTC.

l Are any key on, engine off DTCs displayed on the Scan Tool?

Yes
GO to Powertrain DTC Charts section, and PROCEED as required. (to that particular DTC code)

No
GO to «JB1» to evaluate spark plugs and secondary wires.(coil pack issues)

If plugs/wires/coilpack are OK, GO to «HD6»

HD6
HD6 CHECK FOR OTHER KEY ON ENGINE RUNNING DTCS

NOTE:
Check for any other key on, engine running DTCs which can cause the Misfire DTC.

l Are any additional key on, engine running DTCs displayed on the Scan Tool?

Yes
If DTCs P1132, P1138, P1152, P1158, P1131, P1137, P1151 or P1157 are present, GO to «HD8».

All others: GO to «Section 4», Powertrain DTC Charts, and PROCEED as required.

No
Vehicles with D.P.F. EGR Systems: GO to «HD7».

All others: GO to «HD8».

HD7
HD7 CHECK/COMPARE PID VALUES

l Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature.

l Access DPFEGR PID.

l Record DPFEGR PID value.

l Key off.

l Key on, engine off.

l Access DPFEGR.

l Compare key on, engine off and engine running PID values.

l Was engine running PID value within 0.15 volt of key on, engine off value?

Yes
KEY OFF. GO to «HD8».

No
KEY OFF. Go to Pinpoint Test Step «HE100».

That will get you pretty far, let me know if you still get that far and don't locate the problem.

Also, as for the injectors:
Measure resistance of fuel injector and harness circuit between the fuel injector and VPWR circuits at the fuel injector harness connector.
The correct pins would be located if you look at this picture.

Now, AT the harness would be derived from looking at the injector half.
Is the resistance between 11.0-18.0 ohms?

If so, replace the PCM, is not, then diagnosis of that particular injector is in need.

Let me know what I didn't cover, or what you need covered more..

Ray

I took off the UIM & played around w/ the # 4 injector wiring, when I stuck my meter in the back of the plug I guess I crossed the wires somehow and I heard the injector open. I didn't see any thing really wrong so I put it back together & no more skip at the moment! Hopefully it will stay gone. Thanks Ray, even though I have no Idea what exactly I did I'm sure you helped!
