Do any of you guys understand what octane rating is and why we (SVT at least) have to run higher octane gas in our cars. The answer is simple, the compression ratio is too high to run lower octane gas. The octane rating is simply a measure of gasoline's resistance to detonate. Since higher compression will cause detonation, you have to run a higher octane, and filling up with higher octane than necessary doesn't improve performance...it may run a little cleaner because those grades are usually more refined, but you're not going to see any noticeable improvement.

I try to run stuff like that sparingly, but I DO notice a difference when I run it, and when I don't. Just looking for others opinions.........

Guys, octane is simply a rating that describes its tendency to knock or ping. Unless you need it, you're wasting time running high-octane fuel. Contrary to popular belief, there are no 'additives' to clean injectors, etc.

I'd imagine nothing but good will come of running them on my 11.2:1 compression 3 liter, or in Worldtour's (or anyone else's) SC application, but on anything else gains would be minimal. Some of the people with chips may notice a gain alos due to some of the programs being overly aggressive with the timing...
