About a week or so ago I started to have issues with my 98 SVT contour power antenna. When I would turn on the radio, the antenna would go up, but when I would turn off the radio the antenna would stay up, even though I could hear the motor trying to pull it back down. As of right now the antenna is stuck up, and I am trying to figure out what the problem is. The antenna doesnt seem bent, but almost as if it came disconnected to the motor or mechanism that pushes it up. I opened my trunk to pull the antenna for further inspection, but have no idea how to remove it. What steps to I take to remove the antenna. Thanks

It is a nut. It threads off. It has conventional threads. Turn it counterclockwise to remove.

That helps, but do I screw the silver part off, or the unscrew it from the black base? Assuming it is from outside the trunk, and not inside. The silver part is round and has little slots on it, and don't know what I would use to get it off? When I try to unscrew the black part I feel like it isn't budging and pulls on my siding? Thanks

The silver part is the nut that must be unscrewed. That is what the tool I gave you the link to is for.
Edit:
Looking back at this thread, I cannot find the post about the tool. Do a Google Search for "Tool Source". On their web site, use their search feature near the top of the page and type in "antenna". There is a variety of antenna tools. Look at the one on the bottom of the list. You may be able to find such a tool locally at a parts store or a car audio shop.
Frequently I can get by without a special tool, depending on how tight the nut was installed. Try using a pair of long nose pliers. If the tips of the pliers fit the nothes tight enough, use them as a wrench. Insert the tips into the holes on the nut with the pliers standing straight up and try turning the nut off.

I found the tool - Antenna Nut Socket/wrench. I am going to try some of the local stores first. Thanks, and I am glad I didn't try to muscle it out!

a flathead screwdriver would have done the job. Maybe a mallet if it was really on there, and depending on your confidence, a towel to guard the paint incase you miss.

Quaife, lightened SVT Flywheel, SPEC stage II clutch, removed resonator, k&n drop in - various other goodies too.

I second that. I fixed mine earlier this week. Everything just needed a good cleaning.
