Can someone direct me to a location to find out about this?
I have a 95 ford countour GL 2.5 DOHC. It is running rough at low RPMs. Acts like water in gas bit there are times when it runs O.K.
Oil light comes on when you pull up to a stop due to idle not maintaining.
Lets start here and then I will get into the rest of the history.
Thanks
Rick

Welcome. Not sure about the title.
Rough at idle. IAC, MAF, air filter, fuel filter, water in gas (use HEET or gas stabilizer), vacuum leak.

Oil light. Danger. Check to make sure there is enough oil. We usually put in half quart above max line. It could be a bad oil pump too, but try the cheap and easy things first.

Edit. Maintenance how-tos

Thanks for responding. The engine was just rebuilt and only has about 300 miles on it. The shop that rebuilt it worked and worked but could never get the jerking out. When it is running good it is top notch so they said the motor was built right. I just gave up on them, they did say that the timimg was on but someone mentioned the variable speed timing that that might have someting to do with the jerking. If I get above 3500 RPM with no load it runs good. But when you go up a hill or get below 3500 it will start jerking. I have ran two bottles of heet through it. This is a standard and so another way to describe it is like you are trying to run in 4th gear at low RPMs.
Does the oil pressure have anything to do with the timing?
One more thing where is the heater fan fuse? the fan will not blow.
Thanks again
Rick

Once again, not sure about the variable speed timing.
Try the fuel filter change for sure.
Don't know about oil pressure and timing.
For Fuse locations check out owners' manual. Download for free at

www.fleet.ford.com

Edit. May have to go to fordvehicles.com site for 95 model.

Welcome to the site!

Check the operation of your secondaries. There is a vacuum operated dashpot to the rear (firewall) of the water pump. Look under the intake tube. It is connected via small metal linkages to the rear of the secondaries in the lower intake manifold. When the engine is started the dashpot pulls in and turns the secondaries 90 degrees at idle to close them. If they do not close the engine will runpoorly under 3200 RPM. The dashpot vacuum is supplied from a block shaped solenoid bolted to a plate on the back of the rear head. You will have to remove the intake tube and EGR valve to get down there.

If it is, then this is the order.

FIREWALL
4-6-5 <--coil pack
3-2-1

1-2-3 <--engine
4-5-6
BUMPER
