Do you think the Contour will be OK for an open track day? Is there anything I need to check for before I go out? The day is in October but I want to make sure I have everything straight before I go.
I am hoping to have some fun and not spend my time worrying about the SVT's health.

Well I was planning to bleed the brake fluid and put some new fluid in. I have some Performance Friction brake pads and fairly new rotors so I'm good on that front.
I'm most worried about the oil starvation problems that the Duratec has. Is 6 quarts enough or should I put a little more in? The track has some fairly long corners going both left and right.
Should I take out the spare tire and all that stuff?

I would put 6.5 quarts in, and if you have the money an accusump would solve the oiling problem. I would also make sure your tires have pleanty of grip. If you still have your stock wheels you can try to find a set of slightly used hoosiers to put on those. Take any loose crap out of your car, spare tire, jack, etc. Have fun

Is this your first event? I'm assuming so since you are asking the question. Make sure you flush and bleed your brakes, and that you have considerable pad left (more than 75%). Depending upon the track you may use them up quickly or not at all. Make sure your tires are in good condition. I'd start your tire pressures around 36-38 PSI (assuming you have street tires). Make sure your battery is tied down well. I'd run 6.5-7 qts of oil. I ran three events with just 6 qts. w/ no problems, but I feel better about having a little more oil. Also, check your steering and make sure everything is tight. You may want to flush your cooling system and fill with new coolant. Otherwise run what you brung! Listen to your instructor - they are super good to have in your car. Have fun, and most importantly, be safe. To answer the original question, depending upon the track you will find out that the Contour gets around very well. It's a great feeling passing someone with a car that cost twice as much as yours!

Depending on how long the corners are, you might have problems with the power steering reservoir puking its contents. I ran at Nelson's Ledges twice now and when I went really hard through the carossel I lost most of my power steering fluid by the end of the weekend. I wrapped a paper towel around the bottom of the cap to catch whatever might spill out and take a quart to refill in case you need to add fluid.
Other than that put 40 psi in the tires and have fun.
