I don't know anything about Mac's, i have always been a strict PC user except for at the Art Institute.

I want to build a small studio for myself, and when it comes to all the hardware i need im cool, but .. what do i need in terms of power in the computer?

DO i really need a G5 for my music processing using Qbase and protools? What is Dual 2ghz processors in terms to the newest 4.0ghz + or whatever is out there?

Will a G4 suffice in power... etc? Any musicians here ?

Might want to hold out a bit... Apple dropped IBM as their CPU supplier and went to who... Intel!

So yeah, they're developing an x86 OSX for use on some future Intel processors. The developers version has leaked out and people have been putting them on their PCs...

Um... You'll be holding out for a LONG while. Apple will still be pushing IBM chips THROUGH 2007.

You probably don't need a dual G5. MANY musicians used G4s with ample success... So, a dual G4 would be plenty of power.

One of my best friends is a sound engineer and runs a G4, but added a huge honking extrenal HD. He had that mini tower for protools, but has recently jumped up to the version with more inputs/outputs with no issues at all.

He has a pretty sweet setup with a korg triton, korg karma, MPC4000XL, ect all hooked up through the new protools, and not have to switch from unit to unit. The G4 is plenty good, he just needed the larger external HD to store everything he works on from day to day.
