it's time for a tranny fluid change. going with mobil 1 atf and per ceg will add ford friction modifier. if i add 3 qts of mobil 1(or a little less to compensate for the ford friction modifier), how much ford friction do i add? and whats best if it matters, do i just add the ford friciton after putting in the first quart or 2 of mobil 1 before topping it off/adding 3rd qt. 'til overflow? sorry if sounds stupid, but don't know too much about cars and better to be safe than sorry....

You need 2 oz (half a bottle) of Ford friction modifier. Part number XL-7 is preferred but XL-3 functioned fine before XL-7 was introduced.

It doesn't matter when the friction modifier is added. It will mix well enough once you start driving. I do it first and then add the trans fluid.

Actual capacity for the trans is 2.7 quarts for the early ones, and 2.2 for the newer style which came into production in January of 2000. The fill till you spill methods works, but the car must be level. If you have it up in the air to work on it, you can fill up to 3 quarts and then lower the car to level to allow it to spill before reinstlling the fill plug.
