well. when im driving hard and shift a gear there is like a pop sound in my exhuast it almost sounds like my catayltic..and it leaves a puff of black smoke to when it does it..mind u it is when i have it revving like 5500.
and it also works really well in the cold and [censored] but durign the day it runs liek [censored]..would this be my iat?? anyways hope u guys can help me

Car running rich. When shifting exhaust is lighting off(backfire). Sounds like your getting too much fuel or not enough air. Any mods done to the car?
95 Contour, Custom EVO bodykit, 2.0l, PNP Focus head, Stage 2 cams, Je pistons, Eagle rods, 4in1header, 2.5" header back exhaust(complete stainless), D P nitrous, ram air intake, 10mm wires, flamethrower.

yeh a [censored] diy short ram intake and a exhuast system with a jsut a glass pack...i have the iac out right now im going to give it a good clean and im going to put my resonator back on top of the throttle body

If your intake is not allowing the MAF to read air going through properly, it will make it run rich. Try swapping your stock intake setup back on.

My escort does the same. Got a bit better when I advanced the timing and run premium.
Just run a 50 shot of nitrous, it'll probably take care of it.
