Hello Gang,

I had the Famous Battery Red light at high RPM's because of the brushes were finished on my High Milage Alternator ( 120 000 Miles).

So I purchased an Champion Rebuilt and a exide Battery (650 A the Duratec spec) because it was 6 years old.

Anyhow, I still have the red light but now it is different. Glows weak at at 800 rpm at get bighter as I press the gas(higher Rmp's).

I guess the Alternator is not charging ???

thanks

First steps first:

Check your voltage.. multimeter (voltmeter) across the battery terminals. Started, and at idle should read 14-14.7 volts.

Rev the engine through about 3500-4000 rpm (via the TB from within the engine bay) and watch the readings... should maintain that voltage.

Shut the car off, and remove the surface charge of from the battery. (headlights and interiors on for 60 seconds)

Measure voltage at battery.. should be 12.0 or higher.

a measurement that is off while running would indicate alternator problems. A measurement of <12 while off would be a battery problem.

My guess would be that your wiring on the alternator is either corroded, or loose.

My Tachometer does not work when I have that Problem BTW.

What is the small wire for that connects to the bolt where is the 4 gauge wire that goes to the mega fuse ???

Likely the charge indicator wire.. leading to the dash light.

Find the loose connections, and you should be in good shape. Don't junk it! Sell or trade in, but it might not be time yet anyhow.

I brought my car to a ford dealership to get this problem fixed. They checked the battery and the alternator and found no problems and when I got it back, the light had magically stopped coming on at high revs

maybe they checked the specs on the inline...for the rotary girder...

I really think it was just a loose or poorly connected something though
