SVT runs on premium fuel, I can't imagine the milage on your GTP is bad enough to offset this. Good milage for a SVT milage would be 23-24mpg or about 10L per 100Km, aveage milage would be in the high teens to low 20's. What does your GTP get?

an SVT with a 2.5 v6 should get improved milage over a supercharged 3.8 v6, provided both cars are in same running order. I am thinking the GTP requires prem, like many other forced induction cars, although I could be wrong?? The difference between filling up with reg or prem is about $3-4 on the contour.

Bith the GTP and SVT run on premium fuel (we won't get into the "can I run it on regular?" debate, I hope...). IIRC, the GTP was (in US numbers) 19 city, 27 highway, whereas the Contour SVT was 26/31.

He would still be taking the premium hit, just not as much of one.

well if you stay off the boost and use cruise 32-35 mpg isnt hard

staying off the boost is the hard part

i had posted if the contour requires premium on the main forum, i know if the manufature says you need it, you need it... lol

... odds are it will be a smart car for commuting, and the 98 tour for the beater and fishing mobile

32mpg is unachievable in a V6 Contour. At that fuel consumption the car would have a range of 748KM per tank. I once broke the 700KM barrier in my 96 but that was with the CEL on for running lean in banks 1 and 2. 35mpg would give a range of 818KM, even a 4cyl Ztec couldn't do that so if you are getting 32-35 with your 3.8L supercharged GTP there is no need to look for something else to save on gas.

looking at a focus now , 2005 ST model as well, we both like it, even if it breaks even with gas milage, atleast it isnt premium grade fuel

2.3 duratec looks like a nice little engine, and the ST model is supposed to use some of the fsvt parts in the suspention

730 with about 5L left in the tank is the best I have done in the Zetec. That was @ 120 and the temp was around 5 degrees or so. Betting I could make 800 or so to near empty if I drove on a hot day uninterupted. Of course that is all ideal conditions that are rarely obtainable.

The 2.3L Duratec is similar to what you will find in the Mazda3 and 6 4-bangers. It runs on regular gas, and you get the environmental lovers happy with it being a PZEV (Partially/Zero Emissions Vehicle). The engine has been getting major praises from all U.S. Focus peeps since its intro in 2003 because of its torque and fuel economy.

Like you said, the ST model uses the shocks and struts from the SVT and ST170 (Euro version of the SVT) models. If you want to go lower, there are quite a number of companies that offer aftermarket kits.
