This is good to know. Ok, so am I correct in assuming these both have ATX transmissions? And if so, is it a different size or mounting for either?

Wasn't it mentioned somewhere around there that the escape was the same platform as the tour? (most likely speaking out my butt here, so correct me please where i'm wrong)

Robert,

Please check out the 3 Liter forum. There is plenty of ghood info in there.

If you want a little more from the platform - maybe consider picking up a used SVT instead.

Why doesn't someone just give this guy an approxmate idea of what it would cost him to convert an automatic Zetec to a manual Duratec. I'll hazard a guess that if you were so inclined and if you could find someone to do it properly, and if you had the cash available, it could set you back $7500 minimum - with no guarantee or warranty that it would ever work properly.

Bear in mind that you can get a decent stock manual duratec Contour for anywhere from $2000 to $5000.

Right, exactly, this is what I was thinking. You've got entirely the wrong starting point for an upgraded V6 if that's what you have in mind. If you want to boost performance on YOUR car, you'll have much, much better results through forced induction for less money. Or if you wanted to just get a mild improvement for reasonable money, go for mods on intake, headers, exhaust, a performance-tuned ECU (which should improve your transmission response too), and focus on getting your suspension, brakes, and wheel/tire combo dialed in. You'd end up with a fun-to-drive car that will corner like it's on rails and scoot around pretty well. But if you're after a manual transmission and/or a V6, you'll want to just find another Contour that meets those criteria.

That's what I did.

Im not guessing that high if he was to run a stock duratec. If it was going to be built before install then, of course, the costs would soar.

Most reliable way for more get up and go, MTX swap the Zetec. Most of the parts I listed will still be neeeded, but you arent dealing with rebuilding the entire car. I looked around, found everythign I could, lined up the parts, and when the ATX died, the MTX found its new home. Sure there are cheaper ways to get it to go more, but a turbo is out of the question for what I paid for the MTX and nitrous will not always be there.

I never said that the 3L was favored less then the 2.5L. Ford should have given us the 3L from the getgo and perhaps the 3.5L in the SVT. So much for the fuel economy ratings though.

I got my 99 tour SE with 90k miles with all options except leather and a duratec with a manual for 3200. This was a deal i couldnt pass up.
