I bought the sub back in April, and I'm finally putting it to good use. This box took me all day, only because I had to keep running to Lowes for stuff that I THOUGHT I had in the garage, but didn't. Now for a few questions

1) Do I really need some sort of brace or support for the port wall? I screwed it in on the side, top, and bottom, so I can't picture it moving at all.
2) For the speakr wire, can I just run it going out of the port? I think I saw someone do that before, and it seems like a good idea

Sorry about some of the pics being blurry... I was hungry so I didn't have a steady hand. I'm going to pair this sub with either a KX600.1 or a MRD-M605. Oh yeah, box is 2.25 cuft, .35cuft port, tuned at 38Hz. Too bad its not for my car, but for my girlfriends

NO you can't run the wire out the port hole.

Well technically you can but why?
Drill a hole run your wire seal it up. or buy the terminal things.

Your gonna sink all this time into the then ghetto rig it?

Until the Kicker amp gets here, I was going to use the good ole Punch 500a2 and give it 250wrms at 2 ohms. Do you think that underpowering it that much will do some damage to the sub? The box design I used (from Kicker) called for 500wrms with subsonic filter, 350wrms without. I don't have a subsonic filter for the 500a2, so I didn't think 250wrms would be too bad

that fosgate will give it plenty. It's not going to be as loud as with that KX, but hey, it'll still be loud.....

btw, why the high tuning? I would like to think that if you wanted this as a DD woofer you would tune a little lower for better response..... but hey....

The instructions on the Kicker website had this as the lowest tuned box.... I'm sure lower can be built, but this is my first vented box.

and to double check, that little amount of power (250wrms to a 600wrms sub) WONT damage it?

it shouldn't. though i would avoid sending the amp into clipping just to be safe....

I have been underpowering my 2 12" SL5. for the most part i was running a 500a2 punch, 300watt V12, and for about 2 days Kicker 800. now i am running a Gravity Force 1600 (I think). That is enought so that i have to check my spoiler when I change my oil.

The old underpowered woofer theory pops it ugly head....keep the signal clean and you should be fine with most any output level. The 38hz tuning is a bit on the high side. probably will have some good SPL but some loss at the low end due to the higher tuning frequency, will also keep the driver excursion down (hence no really low notes) Probably why Kicker recommends it, keep the coil in the gap.
