Hi, I have a 97 ford contour svt. It is a v6 and a stick shift. My problem is the air condition. It will blow but only hot air, I went and tried to have it recharged but the machane said I need a condorsor, my so called husband says thats not right but never has time to check it. So Imy question is why will my air conditor not blow cold air? Please Help. I am trying to learn to do these things myself!

Umm sounds like the condensor
We have no way of knowing without looking at it, sorry. It could be condensor, accumulator, comressor, etc.
And your car is not a 97, it's a 98, 98 1/2, 99, or 2000.
Post your location, maybe someone on here is close enough they can look at it.

Welcome..
SVT's were made from 98-2000.
possibilities:
Your compressor may, indeed, be out..
Your compressor clutch may be bad, too.
a leak in the system
cycling switch may be bad.
etc
etc
etc
edit: I'm not an AC guy, so I will let someone else chime in throughout the night with tips on troubleshooting, or narrowing down the causes.

The basic thing is to find a leak. That usually involves using dyed fluid and an UV light. And of course inspection of the compressor to make sure it's working.
One way to see if you have a leak is to turn the a/c on, if the high speed fan does not turn on, then you have no/little pressure in the system, meaning you have a leak.
Basically, just find a reputable shop to take it too. Expect the cost to be between $500 and $1000, as usually more than one thing will be replaced to ensure proper operation of the system in the future (this is standard practice and not a rip-off). Working on an a/c system in your backyard without having a lot of know how and proper equipment is not a good idea.

Definitely only if she's not in Texas. Not to hijack this post, but I discovered I have a compressor clutch that is on its last legs. Does anyone know if the clutch can be replaced without having to remove the compressor from the engine bay? I'd rather avoid that if possible.
Thanks.
