I am dealing with the exact opposite with my recent move from RI/MA to FL. RI/MA all alcohol must be purchased at a liquor store, they close at midnight or a little later on Fri and Sat and 9pm everyday else. No liquor sales on Sunday. Here in FL you can get liquor 24/7 at walmart and gas stations. They even have drive thru liquor stores here.

24/7?! When I lived in FL, the cutoff was 2am if I remember correctly. Still not too bad though. And it was pretty cool being able to buy beer & wine at Wal-Mart; the local Supercenter even sold kegs.
Ohio had a strange law-- you could buy liquor at supermarkets and gas stations, but it had to be diluted to something like 30 or 40 proof. Most of the time they were very sneaky about this--the bottles typically looked like their full-strength counterparts, except for saying "diluted" in tiny, cursive, silver-on-gold lettering.
I moved out of Maryland before I was 21, so I'm not as familiar with their laws. They don't seem too bad at all, though--supermarkets could sell beer & wine if they had a license, and one time when I went back to visit the folks, I found a liquor store that was open at 1:30 on Christmas morning.
Pennsylvania was a royal pain in the ass. You can't buy a 6-pack of beer unless you go to a restaurant or bar, and pay their jacked-up prices. Otherwise you have to buy it by the case from a beer distributor. And those can't sell liquor. It'd take 30-40 minutes of driving around just to get a bottle of SoCo and some Miller Lite when I'd visit friends in Lancaster.
Wisconsin is mediocre. No liquor sales after 9pm, no beer after midnight. However there are no Sunday restrictions at all, which is a big plus. Standalone liquor stores are pretty rare here; most of them are combined with gas stations or supermarkets.

Wow, after reading all these posts about the liqour laws in all the different states I feel spoiled. I can walk into ANY supermarket and liqour store (7-11 only sells beer)as long as it is not between 2am and 6am and get beer or liqour (full strength). I give my buddy a hard time who lives in PA about the fact that he has to go to a bar to pick up a six pack (which is completely foreign to me) and pay their jacked up prices.

Georgia allows the counties to decide. Here, beer and liquor can be sold at the same stores, no alcohol sales at any kind of stores on sundays. You can go to a restaurant on sundays and get alcohol by the drink.
In statesboro, it's a "damp" county. Beer can be sold at stores, but not liquor. Alcohol by the drink can be sold at the bars. To get a bottle of liquor, we had to drive to the next county. I'd usually just stock up whenever I visited home so I wouldn't have to worry too much about running low on liquor. And no alcohol sales of any sort on sundays.

OK I could be wrong, but the point is I bought a six pack of beer at a gas station really late at night.

Is that right? That's weak. I love how Vegas can get 24 hour liqour licences and yet there are laws like that. I agree WTF.
not to mention that in Vegas you can walk around on the streets with alchohol in your hands.
I wonder if Walmart is planning on selling beer and hard liquor in CA stores they have damn good prices on wine and wine coolers/jack daniels drinks.

You can't beat walking down the strip at 4:00am chitfaced double fisted with beers on your way to the next bar/club.
As far as the Wal-Mart thing that is wierd that you can't buy at Wal-Mart (in CA) but I don't mind as where I live in L.A. you would have to drive to south central for the nearest Wal-Mart. Sav-On always has good deals though.
