http://mp3car.com/ Considering the space you would probably have to get a flip out screen. I think it's pretty useful. If/when I do get my Contour I will definitly consider that

there room to build the computer part of it itself and put it in a pre-98 center console, but, youll want to relocate the hvac controls the din slot in the pre98 console so you can run the monitor in the dash. heres a link to my friends ranger that built one in it. awesome job, and very clean. I would have to turn on the computer anyway to play audio or use the gps so I figured getting a flip up screen would be useful and protect the screen when I'm not using it. Nice job on that Ranger

Ran out of funds, so I had to sell the screen.
I have since deleted the pics of my host for the space, but the screen was off this company:
Lilliput 7" TFT LCD XGA touchscreen. This is actually the newer model, but probly still uses the Hitachi LCD panel. As I said in a post about 1/2 through that thread, the image is pretty fuzzy up close, but I noticed just the other day if I'm like 5" from my laptop screen it does the same thing.
From what I researched back in November/December, this Lilliput is the best to use for a car computer. If you use a regular DVD player, you will get horrible resolution (like 640x480 max... just like if you hooked your computer up to your non HD tv). This Lilliput has 400cd/m2, which is pretty bright and 200:1 contrast ratio which isn't very good, but comparable to the other XGA screens you can find. The brightness sets these apart, as the competition have 250-300 max, which makes them yellowish in comparison. They even make it in a DIN housing now.
This screen claims 400cd/m2 brightness an 300:1 contrast ratio with it's motorized touchscreen. No price listed, but I'm guessing pretty expensive.
Either of these ways you'd need to mount the computer somewhere else, so it's not an all in one type setup. But it's cheaper to do in total price than an all in one DIN unit, and that one still needs an external screen.
Definatly look at MP3Car for parts... you can get the parts cheaper from other sources, but I've read that MP3Car is a good buisiness to deal with... kinda like Newegg.
Just a comparison for these screens... normal sized LCDs have brightness of 250-400cd/m2 and contrast ratios of 350-600:1, with the lower numbers more common. Even though they are really bright with high contrast ratios, black is usually washed out and seems more like gray. Read this article I just found on Toms Hardware Guide about "Do contrast ratios matter?" to learn a little more.
