I am about to install my 1st system and my friend said I would need a capacitator because my stock alternator is probably weak. Is this true?
I am running 700 Watts RMS... Will I have problems with lights dimming? will there be a huge drain on my battery? or will I need to buy a high output alt?
I do not really want to buy either one... but I do not have my system installed yet so I do not even know the problems I may have. How powerful is a stock contour alt? I heard it was 130 amp alternator... is that correct? Will that be able to handle me putting out 700 watts without any problems in my cars electrical system? Will I need to upgrade wires?
lol, so many questions. I am just confused. Will I have any of these problems? Any help is appreciated.

Get your alternator tested at your local autozone. If its putting out significantly less output than it is rated for (130A) then replace it, potentially with somehting larger. That being said, 700w shouldn't even come close to taxing the stock electrical system.

thanks. Do you think I would even need a cap? That is what my friend recommended. Also, how much does it cost to have the alt tested?

Caps are highly overrated!!!!! Get a yellow top way before you get a cap, They install the say way and a yellow top is only slightly more expensive.
But as dave said you shouldn't need either, Upgrade the Big 3 and you should be all set

And I would recommend an Oddysey battery over any Optima. Might be a few more dollars, but well worth the investment.

Why?
My yellow top has been perfectly fine, and I have put it through hours of engine off listening sessions since 2001 without a single problem. It also starts my car easily in the dead of winter too.

Anybody ever upgraded the power cable from the battery to the alternator/starter, i.e. using a larger gauge wire and slightly larger mega fuse. If so any significant results? I may do this soon.
