I tried installing Service Pack 2 for Windows XP Professional and it said could not install after it had just started inventory
My virus scanner keeps finding the same virus over and over but it says it cannot remove or delete. My Spysweeper won't remove it, and Lavasoft Ad-aware keeps hanging up on 58.tmp & 59.tmp (where the virus/whatever is held) I tried deleting the virus manually... that wont work. I closed all operations using ctrl+alt+delete and then tried deleting, that won't help.
The computer is getting slower and slower the more I keep using these spyware removers within the past 48 hours, and the computer is constantly *working* on something, even when offline.
And my spyware keeps asking me i want to "remove" spyware (every 20 seconds) always with a new name, and i have active shield on (Im so confused....)

go to nortons website, and type in the name of the virus you have into their search. They have removal steps that can lead you in the right direction.
Thats what I do to debug my lady's computer

I had that one or at least something very similar. It was terrible, I spent hours and hours trying to get rid of it. I think they said it was a trojon... ? Anyway, I ended up rebooting the computer after trashing the hard drive.

I like trend micro's online virus scan. Who knows, that may do something different. I would suggest closing whatever process it is, running msconfig, and seeing if its in there and making it not run at boot. Check the services and start tab for funky looking entries.

First of all, never ever run a virus scan out of safe mode. Chances are you won't be able to delete the file cause it's in use.
If you still can't get it off in safe mode, then, take the drive out - slave it in another computer and scan it then. Should have no problem deleting the infected files. You can go back and remove the registry keys (if any) later.
