Nope, powdered metal.

Powdered metal is compacted into the rough shape of a connecting rod and hot struck at 1024 degrees Celsius in a 600 ton press.Ford calls this process sinter-forged. All 2.5 duratecs have the same type of rods.

so i take it these are not good enough for high boost/high rpm applications? cuz if this turbo kit comes out, then there are gonna be several of us looking to run 14psi+ of boost, some may even want to go 21psi...

I think Brad is trying to get forged pistons as well....

The 2.5L rods are the same as the 3L rods. They are good for at least 250-260 HP per a Duratec developent guy and the experience of one of the racers who raced 3 seasons at 260 HP with stock rods. May be good for more (World Tour has run over 8K miles at about 350 crank HP & counting). I am going to guess about 300HP may be OK (if you are not reving to 8000+RPMs) as sinter forged rods typically are good for 1.5X stock power if SCC is to be believed. With forced induction at least get an Accusump to protect the bearings which are intolerent of loss of oil & if you rebuild use the SHO trimetal bearings & forged rods to be sure.

Yeah, i am putting together a preliminary price list for all the parts necessary to make a beefy bottom end with a turbo...if the prices for key components keep coming down (i.e. Quaife LSD) then this will be better and better....and more possible for me... But you are right, do the bearings if they are gonna be in there anyways for the rods and pistons....

Stock crank is Billet and used in the duttweiler turbo Duratec. (among many stock parts) It made 450HP @6900rpm.

Stock crank is forged steel, and they used custom forged rods/pistons for the duttweiler buildup.

I dont plan on making more power than Duttweiler did with his engine....and if the crank was good enough for him (and from what i hear, that Focus is still running good, daily driver almost), then it is good enough for me... I am just waiting for news on rods and pistons...and then I will of course need to buy the Bulldog tranny... are you gonna be selling those Terry to folks like me out of state?
