"My name is Ralph Hollack, Director of Operations for Quaife America in San Juan Capistrano, California. Some of you may know who we are and what we do, some may not so please allow me to provide some background information. We are the North American arm for R.T. Quaife Engineering Ltd. in England. We research, develop, and market new drivetrain products specifically designed for the North American market, although all manufacturing is done at the U.K. facility outside of London. Our warehouse supports hundreds of thousands of dollars of Quaife inventory, from ATB differentials to gearkits to complete competition transaxles and gearboxes. We provide assembly and maintenance for upper level race teams and can be found at many Speedvision, ALMS and Grand-Am events as many competitor's fielding cars in these series' have specified Quaife drivetrain components for a winning effort.
The reason for this post is this: Quaife was recently chosen by Ford of Germany to be the OEM supplier of torque-biasing differentials for the new Focus RS to be sold throughout Europe. This car will feature 200+ bhp from a turbocharged 2.0L 16V Zetec motor. With this kind of power in a FWD application, a torque-biasing differential is a must. In fact, Colin McRae of WRC fame drove a prototype RS at the San Remo WRC event during a special session and declared "...coming out of the hairpin in 1st gear, with FWD and over 200 bhp, normally would have smoked the tires, but it didn't!" He went on to add "Coming out of the hairpins it really got the power down well. So I found a slippery place on the circuit, stopped, pulled on the handbrake and tried to spin the wheels because I simply couldn't believe it didn't have traction control!" More information on the Focus RS can be found by viewing our website at
www.quaifeamerica.com and click on "NEWS".
We are proud that Quaife has been chosen as the OEM supplier for this exciting car as this helps affirm what virtually the entire automotive aftermarket already knows: The Quaife ATB diff is the strongest and best performing differential on the market. We offer a ltd. lifetime warranty to back up our claim. A copy of our warranty can also be found on our website at
www.quaifeamerica.com. Even though the North American market will not be receiving the Focus RS (at least not at the present time), this announcement also will bear fruit for North American enthusiasts with the MTX 75 transaxle interested in purchasing a Quaife ATB differential.
Because Quaife will be manufacturing 5000 units for the Focus RS starting immediately, these vast quantities will drive down the price for the MTX 75 Quaife ATB differential due to the increased production quantities. To put this in perspective, Quaife generally builds production runs of differentials in batches ranging from 25 to 100 units. Therefore, to take advantage of Quaife's OEM contract, we are pleased to announce that as of today, August 15, 2001, all Quaife ATB differentials for the MTX 75 transaxle will now carry a retail price of only $595. This price will only be valid in North America through Quaife America or one of our authorized dealers. Quaife UK will now concentrate on manufacturing this application for Ford on an OEM basis and will not change the current pricing structure for this application in Europe. This will be the absolute lowest price anywhere in the world!!! Of course, each Quaife ATB differential will still be backed by our exclusive ltd. lifetime warranty. Unfortunately, this warranty is not applicable to any differentials purchased through unauthorized sources.
For those of you who may not know some of the advantages of a Quaife ATB differential over the competition, here are a few points:
1) The differential housing is made from billet steel, it is not a cast housing like some of our competition which can be prone to breakage in high horsepower or drag racing applications. This generally costs significantly more to produce than units with a cast housing (the Mustang diff market for example). It is also one reason why we are able to offer a ltd. lifetime warranty that the competition will not.
2) Gear driven internally rather than friction plates like a conventional ltd. slip that wear out over time or break. Supplies better and smoother power delivery. Once installed, the Quaife ATB diff never needs maintenance or rebuilds, unlike a friction plate LSD.
Please bear in mind that our print media advertising in Sport Compact Car, Super Street and SportsCar magazines will not reflect this new pricing change for a few months due to long advertising leadtimes specified by magazines. Our website will be updated immediately with this development or you can call us at 949.240.4000.
I sincerely hope that those of you who may be wavering whether or not the Quaife ATB diff is a worthwhile modification will now take advantage with the price of the diff being only $595. As those of you with the Quaife MTX 75 diff can attest, it will make a difference in traction whether the car is stock or highly modified. Thousands and thousands of customers over the years with many different applications can't be wrong, can they?
I apologize for the long post but believe it is important to the MTX 75 community. If you have any questions regarding this exciting new development, please feel free to e-mail me at rhollack@quaifeamerica.com. I thank you for your time."
Sincerely,
Ralph B. Hollack
