While doing an oil change on my ATX SE I also swapped out 4 qrts trans fluid with Redline. Maybe it is my imagination because I just spend money but it seems to shift better. My plan is to swap out the ATX with Redline during the next several oil changes.

If you were running conventional fluid previously there probably is a difference with the redline.

What improved? I am about to change my ATX fluid, I am unhappy with the shift (compared with even my 1985 Dodge Lancer) , although all gears OK.

Although still not great, the trans seems a little tighter in the shifts. The ATX on these cars is not the best which you are ready know. This is my daughters car so I do not drve on a daily basis so my I may be wrong. I know the synthic will help it last longer for sure.

I've used Mercon V for about 5 years? and it lasts longer in the Houston heat. A bit cheaper that Mobil 1 ATF because it's semi-synthetic. Smoothed out the shifts some too.
Take off the upper oil cooler line, shove it under the car (after you remove the crappy panel) and stick it in a 5 gallon bucket. The rest is easy. took about 10 quarts before the new stuff started to come out. Start the engine and let it run until it stops coming out. Start dumping the new stuff down the tranny dipstick hole as fast as it will take it. When the clean stuff starts to come out shut the engine off, reconnect the cooler line, start the engine and check the fluid level. Then top off if needed.

RichS: By tighter you mean?
2X95SE's: Mercon5 isn't recommended far as I know. Maybe reality differs...

I will say that, for the record, M5 is not recommended for any CD4E produced after 2001.

I would like add that there are no part number differences between 2001-2002. As a matter of fact, most distributors only list parts; for the CD4E - until 2001, so...

There is alot to be said on this topic!

And I feel that RichS is refering to "tighter shifts" as in shorter lag-time between gear changes. This is normal for syn fluids. Any syn fluid will produce this nature in shifting because of it's chemical make-up. It handles cold temps better than most normal ATF's, so it stands to reason that it handles pressure better at the CD4E's normal temps.
