Hey guys, I'm a big Taurus performance person and have yet to really get into the duratec sceene. However the other day I grabed a 2000 Cougar and went for a drive. WOW, the road hugging feel makes me want to turn in my 4 doors for 2. I have always loved the utility, feel, and look of a 4 door car but the Cougar just drove so well!

Okay now for performance. What do I need to do for a 3.0 conversion. The older 3.0 DOHC has the waterpump on the opposite side as the 2.5, does that mean I need to run a newer escape/taurus block? I would like to retain the 2.5 heads for maximum non sc performance. Also I would like to keep traction control, would I use the 2.5 intake or the 3.0? How long can I expect the trany to hold up? Any one know anything about the getrag 6 speed that is going in the focus? I have heard some talk of swaps. I will need a quaife.

Correct, '96 and above I believe.

Use the intake from the 2.5L

The MTX-75 will hold up, differential is the weak point. Replacable by the upcoming Torsen or the current Quaife LSD.

Don't bother with the 6-speed Getrag, won't handle the torque, not to mention it'll be quite an expensive swap. (Getrag tranny and labor - $$$)

John

P.S. I hope I made some sense, for those smarter than me, b!tch me out I'm babbling nonsense.

"loved the utility, feel, and look of a 4 door car but the Cougar just drove so well!"

Hey thats an idea, the handling of a Cougar in a 4-door. "Hmm, lets call it Contour! They will sell like hotcakes in the U.S. because Mericans' really appreciate a fine handling compact car and could care less about driving a 4WD behemouth to show off there wealth and intimidate the smaller vehicles they tailgate."

Quote from now unemployed Ford exec.
