You guys will be SURPRISED! My Tempest stopped working! YAY! This happens to me every 3 months.... anyway, to tell you about the problem
I was listening to a song with some low notes, when the sub just went OUT. The speaker still moves in and out smoothly, and there is no burnt smell present. I hooked a different speaker up to my sub amp, and the amp works, so I don't know what the problem is. Possibilities are
1) The Speaker terminal on the box is corrupt 2) ??
Anyone else know what the problem might be? Could it have overexcurted (real word? maybe) itself? The speaker terminals on the sub are still intact I think... I'm gonna do more investigating tomorrow

Check the leads going from the terminals to the point where they most like enter the spider (haven't looked at a tempest in years) Measure across the leads of the VCs to make sure the resistance is still near published specs.
Sorry to hear about the issues.

hook the pos/neg VC ends to a C or D battery, see if it responds. if it just cut out all of a sudden, you might've burnt a spot in the voice coil

Nope, and the wires that go into the VC are still intact. Anyone know where I can buy a Tempest? Better yet, anyone have any suggestions for a sub compatable with a sealed 3.4 cuft box and a Punch 500a2? I'm in the Central Ohio area.
The WORST part is I'm going to have to put this Audiobahn 12" in my trunk until I get another speaker

Does this perform as well as the Tempest? It looks almost like the exact same speaker

Dayton does make a very good speaker, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy more of their stuff. I use the 6.5" "classic" woofers and their titanium dome speakers in a home system and they sound awesome! Especially for the money... Its a good thing I don't live close to PE... I'd be broke... If you have a harbor freight near you they usually have multimeters cheap (pretty decent for the money!) I've got a couple from them, when they're on sale they're around $4... Pretty handy to have around.

They are very similar but their are some minor differences. Both are built by the same speaker house, or were at their introductions.
