Its about 500 miles one way and that is not including the drivin around that i will be doing while i am there. It has a perfect regular maintenance record. I'm going to change the oil before and after the trip. I am going to do the 4 qt drain and fill on the tranny and probably flush the radiator. It already has a new serp belt and waterpump belt. (And waterpump come to think of it...) Also, i changed the spark plugs and wires about 5K ago. Just had tires put on recently also. Other than that, does anyone know of anything else i can do/check to make sure the tour doesnt let me down? The two main things i am worried about is the alternator and the fuel pump because of the things i have heard about them on these cars. Thanks guys.
Oh, and my car is a 99 SE V6 ATX.

It's 1000 miles, man... don't sweat it! Cars work best at constant rpms, warmed up. Highway driving is easy for Contours.

Change the oil before and after? Does this do something beneficial that I don't know about?

Check to make sure there is battery fluid (if it is not a maintenance free battery). And check the tire pressure.
Also if you haven't changed the fuel filter in two years or so, now might be a good time.
You should not have problems with the alternator. And most times, if it goes, it will start with flickers on the charging light at high rpms (usually higher than 70 mph). Should that happen, slow down (to 60 ???) and you will probably make it to your destination.
I doubt you will need to change your oil after the trip. Just do your normal 3K or so and you will be fine.
Enjoy your trip. Our Contours are not as bad as most people say it is.

It does nothing to your benefit. I'm just overly cautious with my cars. You guys are right though. That is a little much. Ok scratch the oil change after the trip. Battery should be good since it is new (3 months old) and is the factory replacement. i changed the fuel filter last winter so i think that should be good. So I guess just check the tire pressure and thats about it. Thanks a lot guys. That makes me feel quite a bit better.

Check your blinker fluid and your exhaust bearings too, those can be a real pain when they go out.
