OP Dal Newbie D Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 3	Hi from UK !! I have a Mondeo 2.0L automatic and it will not engage in D from standstill. I can put into gears 1&2 manually and then about 40MPH I can shift into D and it goes into 3rd and 4th gears. If I drop speed below 35, I loose drive and have to shift manually down to 2. As there are more ATX in the US, you may have come accross this problem? Do I need a new auto box ? The fluid is **** brown - I think something's burnt out. Dal Mondeo 1998 2.0L auto 104K miles

Brown is not a good color. Try changing the ATF first. You should drain, refill with 3.5 litres (drive around for 5 minutes or so to go through the gears in the transmission), drain, refill with 3.5 litres (drive for 5 minutes again) and then drain, refill with 3.5 litres and then check after driving the Mondeo for while to make sure the level is correct before adding more to Max line. FavoriteMystaque Hard-core CEG\'er F Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 1,456	Possibly the transmission range sensor, mounted on the top of the trans, or the Vehicle speed sensor. Also change the fluid. Try that before swapping the trans. Check CD4FAQ in the Transaxle forum here. Good luck with it.
