Yes I have searched 3 times now and nothing. I am looking to find out how to remove the housing for the license plate to replace a bulb

Not sure what year your Contour is but in my 1996, IIRC I just unscrew two screws, remove the bulb cover and change the bulbs. I had to do that two years in a row to pass safety inspection. I will check it again this evening and let you know.

Yep, for the 1996, it is two Phillips head screws.

since you have a 98 there may not be the cover inside of the trunk lid, if not just open the trunk and looks for the bulbs over the plate, you should be able to see them

if not it I think they just pop out or have the two screws that hold em in
