Just got back from a trip to the beach in NC, and with about an hour left in the drive my airbag light came on and has been blinking continuously ever since then. Just curious if anyone has ever experienced this before, and what steps the took to fix the problem
thanks alot

Seems to me I'd want to change the fuse for the airbag monitor, and see if it blows again. The whole "due to intermittent short" thing is more of a catch-all comment, not necessarily a positive diagnosis.
I would change the fuse, if possible, and see if it blows again. if not, you are good to go. if so (likely), you will have to track down what is shorted and causing the extra current flow.. (blows the fuse)

does anyone know where the air bag monitor switch is located? It's not the one in the fuse box underneath the dash.
thanks

mine has been flashing 51 since i got my contour.the dealer i bought the car from sent it to a ford dealer to fix.ford held it for 2 days and didnt do nothing.i was told that fuse is not replaceable and the whole diagnostic module 250 to 300 dollars needs to be replaced.ford would not replace the damn thing until they found the swinging short. i said give me my damn car back .ill wear my seatbelt! i also saw posts here on how to eliminate the whole airbag system light ,bags etc.

I see. Check out this post and you will understand why they will not replace the diagnostic monitor until the short is corrected. If the short is not corrected, you will just keep "blowing" the monitor and they will have to replace it under warranty each time. I take it that per Ray's suggestion, you put in a fuse and it blew right away.

If you are looking for the Air bag diagnostic monitor, it is located in the area under the radio and behind the storage "box". You need to disconnect BOTH battery terminals and wait 15 minutes or so before even thinking about touching anything relating to the airbag. They have an additional backup power.
